II. Uses
Dimethylethanolamine is widely used in many fields:
Ion exchange resin: as raw material of resin, used in high purity water preparation and decolourisation of sugar solution, etc.
Polyurethane foam: as a catalyst to promote the reaction between isocyanate and polyol to improve foaming efficiency and foam quality. In polyurethane foam, DMEA is an auxiliary catalyst and a reactive catalyst, which can be used in polyurethane soft foam and polyurethane hard foam formulations.
Coatings & Paints: used as a co-solvent in water-soluble paints and as a curing agent for polyurethane paints.DMEA is also used in the preparation of water-dilutable paints and as a raw material for dimethylammonioethyl methacrylate (dimethylammonioethyl methacrylate).
Water treatment: the reaction product with acrylic acid microorganisms is used as a flocculant in urban water purification plants. Meanwhile, DMEA is also widely used in the field of water treatment as corrosion inhibitor and scale inhibitor to prevent corrosion and scaling of pipelines and equipment.
Pharmaceutical field: It is used as a drug synthesis auxiliary to promote the reaction; as a pH buffer, it can adjust the pH value of the drug and improve the stability and solubility of the drug; it can also be liganded with edelic acid and aminoacetic acid to generate complexes, which can be used to treat cardiovascular diseases such as high blood pressure and angina pectoris. In addition, DMAE can improve skin colour, reduce the build-up of 'age pigments' that affect cognitive function when taken orally as an intellectual stimulant, and increase levels of acetylcholine, a compound associated with memory.DMAE also protects neurons and other cells from the deleterious effects of certain types of oxidation, both by embedding itself in the cell structure and by acting as an antioxidant, and by protecting against the harmful effects of certain types of oxidation through the use of DMAE. DMAE also protects neurons and other cells from the harmful effects of certain types of oxidation by embedding itself in the cellular structure and acting as an antioxidant, as well as maintaining metabolic processes in the body through a process known as 'methylation.
Textile and Tanning: As surfactants and emulsifiers, they play an important role in the textile, tanning, and paper industries, reducing the surface tension of water, enhancing wettability and permeability, and improving the processing properties of products.
Others: Used as fuel oil additives, intermediates in the manufacture of dyestuffs, fibre treatments, anticorrosive additives, etc., as well as in the synthesis of 763 resins and their curing agents.
