Sodium benzoate has the molecular formula C6H5COONa and a molecular weight of 144.10 g/mol. Its molecular structure contains a benzene ring (C6H6) and a carboxylate group (-COOH) where the carboxylate group binds the sodium ion (Na+) by neutralisation to form the sodium salt. group binds a sodium ion (Na+) to form a sodium salt through neutralisation.
