Appearance: colourless transparent liquid
Odour: weak etheric odour, no strong irritating odour
Boiling point: about 120°C (some data show that it is 121°C)
Flashpoint: about 31.1°C (some data show that the closed cup is 36°C, the open cup is 32°C)
Specific gravity: 0.919~0.924
Viscosity: 1.75mPa-s at 20°C
Surface tension: 27.7mN/m at 25°C
Solubility: miscible with water and many organic solvents

Stability: Stable under conventional and expected storage or operating conditions, but combustible when exposed to open flame, high temperature and strong oxidant. Thermal decomposition will produce toxic nitrogen oxide gas.

Main uses
Solvent: Propylene glycol methyl ether is an excellent solvent for nitrocellulose, alkyd resin and maleic anhydride-modified phenolic resin, and is also used as an antifreeze for jet fuel and additive for brake fluid.
Dispersant and Diluent: Propylene glycol methyl ether is commonly used as dispersant and diluent in paint, ink, printing and dyeing, pesticide, cellulose, acrylate and other industries.
Cleaning agent: with excellent decontamination ability and solubility, it can be used in the preparation of various cleaning agents, such as auto glass cleaner, household cleaner, metal cleaner, etc.
Pesticide intermediate: as the intermediate of herbicide isopropyl metolachlor, it has the advantage of small pollution to the environment.
Raw material for organic synthesis: In organic synthesis, propylene glycol methyl ether can be used as raw material to prepare other compounds.
