Dodecanedioic acid, also known as dodecanedioic acid, is a straight-chain aliphatic dibasic acid containing 12 carbon atoms on the carbon chain, with the structural formula HOOC(CH2)10COOH and the abbreviation DC12. It belongs to a kind of long-chain dibasic acid.
DC12 can be synthesized nylon 612, 1212; synthetic polyamide hot melt adhesive; synthetic polyester resin, used in the production of coatings, adhesives, plasticizers and fillers; dibasic acid salts, can be used to make good quality detergents; synthetic diester, the production of high-grade lubricating oil base oil; synthetic cyclic undecylenic ketone, is a camphor aroma, with some medicinal value.
Synthesis Methods
Dodecanedioic acids have important and wide-ranging industrial uses, but they do not occur alone in nature, and their sources vary according to chain length. Synthesis methods include chemical synthesis and biofermentation.
Chemical synthesis method: industry can be butadiene tripolymer cyclododecatriene, and then hydrogenated to make cyclododecane, and then oxidised with nitric acid through the cyclododecanone and get dodecanedioic acid. Can also be made from cyclododecane as raw materials, in methanol and hydrogen peroxide reaction, made of alkoxycyclohexyl peroxide, and then ring-opening, dimerisation, the generation of dodecanedioic acid methyl ester. Then by saponification, can be produced dodecanedioic acid. Laboratory preparation, to cyclododecanol as raw material, by nitric acid oxidation can be obtained dodecanedioic acid.
The chemical synthesis method is characterised by complex process, harsh conditions, many steps, low yield, low purity, high cost and pollution.
Uses
The product is condensed with hexamethylenediamine to produce engineering plastic nylon 612;
The diester synthesised with octanol, butanol and other alcohols can be used as a plasticiser for polyvinyl chloride, cellulose nitrate, cellulose acetate.
The diester synthesised with octanol is also used as the base oil for advanced lubricants or low-temperature grease for jet engines and gas turbines;
It can also be used as modifier of saturated polyester, precipitant of metal and raw material of spice and special polyurethane; antirust agent of aqueous cutting fluid; and solute in electrolyte of high-voltage aluminium electrolytic capacitor.
