Stability: It is relatively stable and non-corrosive to metals. However, it is easy to produce explosive peroxides in storage, so it is necessary to remove the peroxides before distillation. Light can promote the generation of peroxide.
Reaction properties: it has the general chemical properties of ether. The ether bond is broken during oxidation and nitration. When butyl ether is heated with a mixture of phosphoric acid, phosphorus pentoxide and potassium iodide, iodobutane is produced. Chloride is formed when heated with titanium tetrachloride. Dichlorobutyl ether is generated when chlorinated.
IV. Uses
Solvent: n-Butyl ether is an excellent solvent with strong solvency for many natural and synthetic oils and fats, rubbers, resins, organic acid esters, alkaloids and so on.
Extraction and refining: It can be used to extract resin, grease, organic acid, ester, wax, alkaloid, hormone and so on.
Organic synthesis: It is the organic synthesis reaction solvent for Grignard reagent, rubber, pesticide and so on.
Others: The mixed solution with butyl phosphate can be used as solvent for separating rare earth elements. It can also be used in the production of CD discs.
