Product Description

Product Description

Chemical Solvent Propylene Carbonate with High Quality and Stable WarehouseAppearance: Colourless, odourless flammable liquid.
Melting point: usually between -48.8°C and -55°C (exact values may vary slightly depending on the literature or test conditions).
Boiling point: between 240°C and 243°C (again may vary depending on test conditions).
Relative density: 1.2047 (20/4°C).
Refractive index: 1.4218.
Solubility: Mutually soluble with organic solvents such as ether, acetone, benzene, chloroform, ethyl acetate, etc. Also soluble in water and carbon tetrachloride.
Stability: chemically stable, but may be incompatible in the presence of strong oxidising agents, acids, alkalis and reducing agents.
Synthesis method
There are mainly the following synthetic methods for propylene carbonate, of which the synthesis method of propylene oxide and carbon dioxide is the most commonly used method in the industry at present:

Phosgene method: Propylene glycol reacts with phosgene to generate hydroxyisopropyl chloroformate, and then reacts with sodium hydroxide to generate propylene carbonate.
Ester exchange method: Prepared by ester exchange reaction.
Chloropropanol method: Prepared by chemical reaction of chloropropanol.
Synthesis method of propylene oxide and carbon dioxide: carbon dioxide and propylene oxide are reacted at 150~160ºC and 5MPa to produce propylene carbonate.
Uses
Propylene carbonate has a wide range of uses, mainly including:

Solvent: as oil solvent, spinning solvent, extractant of olefin and aromatic hydrocarbon, and dispersant of water-soluble dyes and pigments.
Battery industry: in the battery industry, propylene carbonate can be used as an excellent medium for high-energy batteries and capacitors, especially in lithium-ion batteries, it can be used as an electrolyte to protect the graphite anode.
Chemical raw material: it is the main raw material for the synthesis of dimethyl carbonate, and it can also be used to remove carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide in natural gas and petroleum cracking gas.
Other uses: in the textile industry, it can be used as auxiliary and colour fixing agent for synthetic fibres; it also has certain uses in geological ore dressing and analytical chemistry; in addition, it can be used instead of phenolic resin as wood adhesive.
